Crash.

A heavy silence fell over the apartment.

In your eyes, Levi had ever been the epitome of composure. Even before you met him all those years ago, Levi was as stoic as they come. His small, fleeting smiles were rare even for you, and while his anger had a short fuse, you had never witnessed a crack of emotion across the seemingly unbreakable mask of his face during one of his rampages.
In fact, in your opinion, Levi Ackerman was practically too graceful for it to be fair. In contrast to you, who frequently sloshed tea on the kitchen counters or dropped bits of food to the floor, Levi Ackerman was not clumsy. Everything he did was with deliberation, and his movements were always fluid. Not loose, but smooth and without any hesitation.
Levi Ackerman was not a clumsy guy.

It was for that reasons that you knew Levi was stressed. Work had been piling up now for the entirety of the few weeks before his holiday, and every day that he came home slumped his shoulders a little further and darkened the bags under his eyes a little more every time.
Only a couple days from the end of his last work week, it seemed the unbreakable had finally broken.

You had watched him carefully when he crossed the threshold. The mumbled 'I'm home' was incoherent, barely more than a small string of meaningless vowels that fell from his mouth. The swan of his movements was either drunk, or dying inside of him as he had sluggishly made his way to the kitchen to prepare himself a soothing cup of tea. You were sat in the corner of the sofa a little ways away, slowly flipping the pages of a book as you glanced up at Levi every few seconds or so. In the short moment it took for you to look down at the book, out of the corner of your eye you saw Levi fumble with a teacup, before it slipped from his fingers and hit the tiles with a deafening crash.

You jerked upright, book forgotten on your lap, and stared at Levi in absolute bewilderment. His hands were still poised as if holding the teacup, jaw slack with the sheer shock of what just happened. His eyes—now uncharacteristically wide with what could only be horror, were trained on the bits of broken crockery at his feet, the hot, dark brown, watery liquid dribbling into the grooves between the tiles and slowly soaking into the white carpet.

'L-Levi?' You stuttered, feeling only a little afraid of his state of shock. His fingers twitched, and a small, strangled whimper left his lips. His knees seemed to shake a little, and for a moment you worried he was going to collapse.

Before you could properly consider the idea that he had suffered a kind of brain damage, he snapped out of his stupor and all but sprinted to his cupboard of cleaning supplies. In no time at all he was mopping up the spilt tea with paper towels, collecting the fragmented china in his hand, and then desperately scrubbing the white carpet free of the growing stain.
All at once, the absurdity of the situation kicked in, and a stifled giggle wormed it's way past the hand you had over your mouth.

Levi spared the carpet a second as he sent you a withering glare. 'Shut up.'

You couldn't help it. Laughter was now shaking your entire body, the noises from your mouth alternating between breathless gasps and loud chirps of amusement.

'B-But—' You choked, a hand pressed firmly against the screaming muscles of your stomach. 'L-Levi, you actually dropped your tea!' With that, you broke out into another peal of giggles, unable to hold them back.

Levi furiously scrubbed at the carpet, hissing venomous obscenities through his teeth as he tried to get the tea out. After a few minutes, your laughter had ceased, and Levi was spraying more product over the corner of the now pale-brown material.

'I told you not to buy a white carpet.'

'Shut the hell up.'

You had come to the conclusion about a year or two after you met him, that the reason behind the infernally white carpets was that if they were dirty, it would show. While this may seem a little contradictory, it made sense to you. Levi Ackerman enjoyed reminding himself what a good job with the hoovering he'd done every time he walked past the damn carpets. The overarching bleached colours of the apartment to him were like mirrors to a narcissist.

With a light sigh, you forced yourself to your feet and trailed over to Levi, who was on his knees and still cleaning vigorously.

'Levi,' you coaxed softly, kneeling beside him and placing your hands on his stiff shoulders. He didn't make any obvious acknowledgment to your presence, but as your fingers worked into his muscles, he clearly began to relax. His scrubs slowed, and his form sagged a little as your whispered reassurances and gentle touches seeped into his skin, slowly revealing a week of exhaustion beneath it.

With his eyes blissfully shut, Levi sat back, slumping against your warm body as the cleaning supplies lay abandoned by his knees. The back of his head was on your shoulder, the bristles of his undercut brushing the sensitive skin above your collarbone. His breath tickled your neck.

'[Name],' he said.

You hummed a little in reply, lifting your fingers to thread them through his raven locks.

'I'm so fucking tired.'

You tipped your head down and kissed his temple, a soft, grounding kiss to remind him that you were right there with him. 'I know, Levi, I know.'

It didn't take much to convince him to make his way over to the sofa, which he did without complaint, even managing to ignore the stubborn stain in the carpet as he passed by. He sank into the cushions covering the black leather, limbs weighed down by the sleep that threatened to take over. Your fingertips ghosted over his eyelids as his breathing deepened.

'I'll call Erwin, to let him know you aren't going in tomorrow,' you murmured, straightening up. The expected grunt or protest never came. It was too late, because he was already fast asleep.
Sunday update! This is pretty short, and definitely not as wordy as my previous.. few.. :P
Anyway I hope this is enjoyed! Thankfully, my first week of school hasn't been as stressful as Levi's week.

To everyone else who finished their first week: How did it go? Let me know, I'm always curious ;)

I'll be away on a retreat next week, so no updates :P I'm drastically low on ideas now anyway though.

Thanks for reading you lovely people!

Ps. Sorry about the font changes. I'm sort of experimenting at the moment! On a computer, there is an option beside the story title to change size/font if you don't like it or if it's hard to read.
